I've made noises about this before, but now it's official: I'm
now in the custom picture framing and art-dealing business. I'm
doing this part-time while I balance building the business against
my day-job, but I plan to make the gradual transition to fulltime
within a year.

My website (currently a single static page but I'll make it real
soon) is here

I am, of course, offering my best discounts to friends, family,
and early supporters :)

As a "grand opening" special, and partly to shake down my
procedures, I'm making the following hideously generous offer:
for the first ten artists who reply, I'll frame one piece
for FREE. That's right... the first one's free :) We can
also discuss selling your work on consignment.

Congratulations!

So do you need a good (inexpensive) web developer who can do design, programming, and all those niggly little user interface things that make a website good? :-)

Hmmm... if it doesn't break the bank we can talk :) I'd like to make my site look good and professional, and I do want to offer certain ecommerce options (e.g. print and art sales). I was basically thinking of dressing up the Agora shopping cart (since my hosting provider offers it free), but if you have better ideas I'd like to hear it...

Congrats
If you ever get big enough to need to hire someone, I know how to cut mats, and frame stuff. I mat and frame all my embroidery pieces for myself.

Great! If nothing else I might need some assistance during crunch periods (which I hope to have at some point :) )

In fact, could you teach me to frame embroidery at some point? Needlework is something I have almost no training or experience in

Yaay! Good luck!!

If you don't mind a bit of unsolicited constructive criticism: I'd make the A in Baldwin lower-case. Right now it says either BAldwin Hill or B Aldwin Hill (or maybe BAldwin BHill), and looks funny.

Okay, so that makes two people who parsed it that way. I'll fix it as soon as I can get back to my Windoze box...

Yay Jim!! Once I get back out of school and into a routine, we'll need to talk. I'll want an occasional bead tapestry framed and I'd rather give you the business than anyone else. I'll have a look around at some point here and see if I can find and info on framing beadwork...thick matting and lots of pins, I'd guess :-) Talk to you soon!

Hmmm... I can think of a couple of possibilities (the major thing I don't know about framing needlework is handling and securing it... I can imagine the rest of the process :) )

Thick matting might be one approach. Another would be a shadowbox, of which several designs are possible. I'll have to look at it and see...

That's really great! Congratulations!

Since I'm considering grad school in the area, I will hopefully be able to be of some help to you then. Too bad I don't have any framing skills.

Brandeis, right? Any other schools you're considering? Planning any trips out here to check the place out?

I can teach you some framing skills if you'd like... as my framing instructor would say, "It's not rocket surgery"...

Yes, and I'm also thinking about Boston University and Boston College. If I can afford it, I'm going to go visit. If not and I get into one of those, we can meet up.

LOL It doesn't hurt to learn a new skill.

Congratulations!

Now go change that 'A' into an 'a'.

Silly person.

At this rate maybe I'll keep the "A"... that's gotten me more attention than any talk of framing ;)

Add me to the list of people who sees that as "B! Aldwin Hill"

Congrats!

If it's not too late, I'm in for the artist thing. I have some photographs I'd been thinking about framing and maybe someday showing. :)

Yay, congrats! I was thinking if I had anything worth framing, then sold two framed pieces today. So yeah, if it's not too late.. :)

(And I noticed the A thing as well. I definitely didn't read Baldwin.)
