...to work on this house of mine!

We've got a squirrel trying to get into our attic. She's obviously gnawing on some rotted crown moulding up on the gable at the back of the house. We've needed to get this fixed for some time, and we're really ready and motivated to do so now. In fact, we need pretty much all of the fascias, soffits, and mouldings replaced.

To make a long story short, trying to get a contractor to do the job is like pulling teeth. The first one I contacted was real eager to look at the place, but then disappeared. I called him back a couple weeks later and he promised an estimate, which never arrived. Screw him... if he disappears like that during the bidding process, he's also likely to be the type to disappear partway through the job and not return phone calls.

I get another one to look at the job, and after a couple of days he says "I don't think I want to take on anything that involved". Great.

Today I called a contractor referral service... the guy called back to leave a message on my answering machine saying that he's booked solid and not even taking appointments until June! I've been hearing a lot of this lately, which is why I started looking back in February. If the economy is so bad then why are so many contractors booked up?

And to top it all off, we have pretty much no homeowner friends in or near Worcester, so we can't even network to find someone who might at least seriously consider taking on our job...

I don't suppose anyone knows a contractor in Central Massachusetts who isn't booked through Christmas and who might at least take a look at our job?
