Are there any tradesmen out there who are not goddamn morning people?

For the second day in a row I had to be up at the butt-crack of dawn for the arrival of the electricians. I've got my laptop, I've got network connectivity, I've got a VPN into the office... but my brain is waaaaaay too fried to do anything useful at work.

Since they're clomping around *and* working in every room of the house, I can't even find a corner to curl up in and zone out...

I've long suspected that a Trades organization that offers to work 9-5, 10–6 or similar would make a killing.

That said, I almost understand it for outside work during the summer…

Uh yup. The people who wanted to come to fix our heater between 11PM and 3AM. And when we said no we will be sleeping then, we got shuffled to the bottom of the list again, happened three nights in a row before I started threatening them with calling the better business bureau and changing providers. Finally they were able to fit us in around 8PM the next night. Meanwhile we had no heat or hot water. (This was back in October/November when it was just starting to get cold out)

your general day involves getting to someone's house before they leave for work in the morning, so the earliness becomes a habit.
