Apr. 13th, 2005 01:53 amMy annual birthday present seems to be a health problem. Last year I had a toothache in a root-canal-treated tooth that ended up taking two oral surgeries and three courses of antibiotics to finally defeat.
This year it was some kind of buggie. A belated present, the morning after my b-day. I woke up entirely too early this morning with terrible, uncontrollable shivering. I mean, it was bad enough that I was starting to wonder if an ER visit was in order. Bundled into jammies and an extra blanket, no joy. I finally ended up taking a hot shower to bring it under control. Put on sweats, bundled into another blanket, went back to bed to sleep it off.
When I came to several hours later I still felt awful. Took my temp - 102. Definitely not time to leave the house or anything, so emailed the boss saying I was out of commission today and perhaps tomorrow as well.
Oh, did I mention that my stomach was particularly unhappy, unable to keep even water down for several hours? :(
Later that afternoon the fever broke (or at least peaked) and I went from shivery to hot-n-sweaty. I'd had nothing to eat all day and was craving chicken soup (particularly Campbell's Chicken-and-stars, a common sick-food when I was growing up). The house was feeling stuffy and I was longing for some cool outside air, so I managed a quick scoot to the stupormarket to pick up same.
Fever's down around 99.8 now, I think I'll definitely take Wednesday off as well...
