random happenings today...

I got my first telemarketing call on my VoIP line today. Even though it's not listed in any directory, I guess that means my number is Out There now... gotta go list it on DNC...

At the Stop&Shop today the cashier had rendered her name on her badge in greek and math font symbols that looked vaguely like letters so you could still make out her name. I complimented her on it, and since she was so sweet I didn't have the heart to tell her that the technical term for such symbols is "ding-bats".

I went through 22 boxes of music from my choral group today trying to find some stuff that we might use for a "First Night" performance. I was looking for stuff that was mostly light and secular, so naturally most of what I found was heavy and sacred. Need about 25-30 minutes worth of stuff. I've got one 8-minute piece I really want to do if I don't get too much resistance, but I still have to fill out the rest. I found some items, now I need to go over it with the singers and see if we can pull it together on only 2-3 rehearsals...

Bunny isn't any better, got a call in to the vet to see if they can squeeze him in tomorrow, which means that I'd better be prepared to take a call as early as 0900.

The telemarketers usually just "war-dial". Whether or not your phone number is listed, you'll still get calls. Do-Not-Call list is about the only effective solution.

Dingbats are typographical fiddlybits which actually have no meaning. Hearts, spades, checkmarks, decorative elements to use in place of droll drab bullets. Those are dingbats. Most math symbols are Greek alphabet letters. Others, like the funky long cursive F and such not, have specific names and purposes. They are not dingbats. If not part of an alphabet, they're mathematical symbols.
