Well, it looks as though my electronics-repair-fu has finally failed me. I just bricked my smartphone trying to fix it. It's a Palm Treo 650, and the screen had gotten scratched up. I ordered a replacement screen, which was DOA, so I put the old screen back in. Long story short, in the process of putting it back together I broke the keyboard connector in such a way as to render it inoperative. No keyboard == no way to use the phone.

Found a replacement (Treo 700p) for cheap on eBay, but it'll take a few days to arrive, so I got a $9 Virgin prepaid phone from Wal-Mart. Man, these things are so untraceable I'm surprised that DEA and DHS allow them to exist. I could, in theory, buy the phone and a phone card for cash. While they do ask for contact info during the activation I imagine that I could supply fake info and still be okay. They also ask for an email address, which could easily be a throwaway Yahoo account...

If anyone needs a prepaid phone (that could be converted to a regular plan if you want) I'll have one available shortly. Please be kind enough not to use it to commit any felonies, though...
