Laptop Brain Surgery
Mar. 5th, 2010 11:11 pmSometime back, I thought that my laptop power supply was getting flaky
Replaced the power supply, things seemed to get better for a bit, then returned to flakiness. Thought it might be the battery, but a replacement wasn't much better.
Googling around some more, I find that on this model of laptop sometimes the charging circuit goes wonky, necessitating a motherboard replacement.
Found a replacement mobo on eBay, and tonight I did the swap. Laptops, it seems, are built from the motherboard out, so replacing it required a complete teardown. Fortunately, I'd located the service manual online, so I had some guidance undoing and replacing the 65 screws needed for the teardown/rebuild.
I'm amazed that not only did it boot afterwards, but everything's working! Oh, and now the battery charge light stays on...
