I came to a realization the other day on the subject of communication styles. I always wondered why some people were really irritating to me such that I'd want to slap them upside the head and scream "GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!!":
Some people can easily summarize and abstract a theme from a sequence of events, and some people are more challenged in this regard.
Type 1: "I developed a new framing technique today" (details upon request)
Type 2: "I tried this, but that didn't work, so I set my gauge here, and it still was off, but then the lightbulb went on and I reached for the frammitz wrench and it came out perfect!"
I notice that a number of very bright children are Type 2: they process events very quickly and thoroughly so they can rattle them off a mile a minute, but they don't yet have the abstraction capabilities to devise an executive summary...
