A hearty Thank You! to
bikergeek,
ceo and Larry (is he on LJ?) for their help in the ongoing renovations in our house... they really gave us a kick-start on the room we're working on. (Sorry,
angelovernh for tuckering out your date... if I had known I would've gone easy on him :) ).
I was up until 0230 this morning pulling wiring down from the attic. Let me tell you, attics are much less scary when they're well-lit. A ten-dollar four-foot fluorescent fixture from Home Despot makes all the difference!
One amusing moment... first I cut out the holes for the outlet boxes in the room below, then went up above to drill holes to feed wires down through. You measure as best you can but there's always a bit of guesswork involved in making sure that you're actually drilling into the same wall bay that you're installing the outlet in. Well, I got proof positive that one hole was correct; after I punched through, the drill bit (a nice sharp spade bit to be exact) fell out of the chuck and straight down the hole. Sigh... write that one off, unless I'm really lucky. Feed the wire down as far as it will go, then go downstairs to see if it's showed up at the bottom yet. No wire, but there's my drill bit right next to the edge of the hole, straight vertical and deeply embedded into the floor... took a fair bit of wiggling to get it out. Oh, and it also >just< missed a still-live wire that was also in that same wall. That would've been fun :)
