Windows 7 upgrade available...
Jul. 6th, 2010 11:28 pmShort form: Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for sale, $100 + shipping if not local. This will upgrade Windows Vista Professional to Windows 7 Professional. I can't promise that you can upgrade XP (even Professional) with this thing (see below).
Longer form of story: I recently bought a new computer for the shop. It came loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium, and everyone told me that the best thing to do would be to upgrade to Windows 7. Looking over the capabilities, I decided that I probably wanted Windows 7 Professional, so I bought that upgrade.
What I didn't realize was that I could not apply the Professional upgrade on top of Windows Vista Home Premium. I had to shell out *another* $119 to get Win 7 Home Premium (from which I can later do an Anytime Upgrade if I'd like...)
Thing is, the box didn't SAY that I couldn't do the upgrade (It says "All editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista qualify you to upgrade"), but when I actually tried to install it it said that my system was not eligible.
In any case, this thing cost me $199, and I'd like to get at least $100 for it. It's never been used (except for the one abortive install attempt) or activated, so it's basically good as new. I figured I'd offer it to friends before putting it on Craigslist...
