Well my wheels got a workout today!

I looked out the window this morning and was almost blinded by the Day Star. Having missed a few other rare opportunities in the past month I was determined to go on a ride. Once I suited up and stretched, I realized, "Oh yeah, this is about time for the big parade". (the fact that I'd been hearing sirens nonstop for the last ten minutes that finally clued me in). Since the parade route bisects my usual run this could have been a problem, but I figured I'd head in that general direction and see what was going on.

I'm so glad I did. I took it easy, no schedule, and ended up scooting around the parade route for a while. When I got there it was the fire truck portion of the parade, hence all the sirens. There must have been trucks from at least a dozen different communities (including a lovely antique engine from Revere). The bike was the best way to see the parade; I could scoot up side streets and see the parade from a number of vantage points.

After a while there was a pause in the parade and I was able to cross the route and do my usual 4-mile loop (hey, I'm out of shape, this is pretty good!).

After this I "opened" up the shop (no customers, but it was a nice day to get some stuff done and still be within earshot of the festivities). Along about 5:00 I felt the bike calling again and decided to close up early and do another ride. This time I did one of my longer loops, and after that scooted on up to the supermarket for french toast supplies (really!) before finally heading home.

Total mileage for the day: 16. I had to drop into granny-gear on a couple hills and huff-and-puff at 6mph, but all and all it was a nice run.

I hope the weather is better in July. I so want a refund on June!
