Random social and other things...
Jul. 1st, 2007 04:49 pmSo there was a huge party yesterday. I seriously debated attending, since I keep wanting to get out more and be social. On the other hand, there's always stuff crying out to be done around the house/shop. In the end I opted to stay home and get things done. Readercon is coming up next weekend, so I hope to see some folks there. I'm also gonna try and be at the 7/7/7 party and/or
wren13's shindig later in the month...
So yesterday I worked in the shop all day, catching up on framing and spending time with an artist who's likely to have me do a lot of giclees. Yay business!
Afterwards I nipped off to Guitar Center to buy a little portable amp for the harp. Last time I played it in front of the shop for the art walk, you couldn't hear it at any distance (I've been spoiled by the big Lyon & Healy harps I've been playing lately). I'm not talking about blowing the roof off, just getting a little carrying power. Turned out to have been Guitar Center's "Midnight Madness" sale... lots of folks putting the amps through their paces at top volume. Got out of there as fast as I could.
Got back, tried it out, I think it will work nicely. Went home, had dinner, then tackled a longstanding kitchen project - building a knife rack. For months now we've had a knife block on the counter and another pile of knives next to it, taking up precious space. After building the rack, I got two feet of pristine counter back.
Today was yard work. Mowed the lawn, stacked firewood, then split some more. I went and got myself a proper splitting maul; that makes all the difference in the world! Most logs split nicely with just one blow of that thing.
Tomorrow, maybe another bike ride...
