housewarming
Aug. 1st, 2006 12:53 amThe housewarming was nice and low-key, people drifting through all day so a fair number of people saw the place but we had quality time with everybody. Needless to say the suspboid contingent stayed till the wee hours :)
Prepping for the party was frantic and exhausting... basically we were using it as a prod to get us to make the public spaces presentable already. There's now a bunch of boxes on shelves in the basement... this is not the final destination for their contents, but it gets them out of the way. Now we have to go through the stuff and decide what stays and what goes (hopefully another yard sale in August).
There was a little adventure Saturday morning before the party. We hear emergency vehicles on the street... a fire truck, ambulance, and police car all pulled up in front of the nieghbor's house. They're nice older folks, and they had planned to come to the party. I see them get out the gurney, and I see the wife (Mary) let them in... my guess is that the husband (Ben) had something happen. Late in the day Mary wandered by the party for a little bit and told us that Ben had collapsed with an irregular heartbeat, but that he's stable now. We hope he gets better. We wished her well and told her to call us if she needs anything.
While showing Mary around the house I suddenly realized that the baby grand piano was built at about the same time the house was (house was built in 1935, piano was dated to the 1930s). I hope it feels at home :)
Many thanks to everyone who showed up, and apologies to those folks who couldn't make it. We'll have more gatherings in the future, though. It's nice to be close to civilization again :)
