So today I get into work rather late. No prob, says I... I'll just stay late to make up for it. These guys are cool about flextime (there's developers in many different timezones; having everyone in one place at one time is not to be assumed).

Then the snow starts.

A couple of hours after I arrive, I start hearing worried noises from the cubes around me... folks making plans to bail early, talk about road conditions and whatnot... so I check weather.com. Yeah, worrisome. Then Tam calls me; she just got home from Boston and has firsthand knowledge of what the roads are like. I say "okay, I'll leave in an hour or so" and she says, "uh, I think you should have left an hour ago". Oh. Damn. And I was just getting into my kernel-hacking groove too...

Okay, one more test build and then I'm out of here... I build, I boot... and lo and behold this time the kernel boots all the way to the login prompt! Woo! And Hoo! I inform my colleagues on internal IRC, and they're all "How did you do it?" and "Can you check in the code?!", to which I reply "Sure... after I get home".

Getting home wasn't too bad... I averaged about 30mph on 495 and most of 290. When I hit Worcester it slowed down to about 20mph, but no major incidents. Hit up the drugstore on the way so I'd have enough meds to make it thru the weekend, couple of items from the supermarket (No, I do not do French Toast Panic shopping!), then home.

Long drives in bad weather always tire me out, though *flomp!*

Tomorrow I get to shovel (okay, snowblow) it all! Whee!!!!!

I used to like snow a lot better when it meant a day off from school...
